Electra Janis serves as Vice Chair of the Washington County Board of Commissioners, a position she has held since January 2024.

Electra has led numerous initiatives focused on public health, safety, and economic development. One of her key accomplishments is the integration of social workers into local police departments, offering compassionate responses to mental health crises and the opioid epidemic. She secured $85,000 in funding for this program using Opioid Settlement Funds instead of taxpayer dollars.

Electra has also been a driving force behind a $300 million merger between UPMC and Washington County Health System, ensuring continued access to quality healthcare. She has supported critical projects, including upgrading the county’s 911 emergency radio system and creating a Blight Mitigation and Demolition Fund. Electra is also a strong advocate for mental health services, education, and public safety, leading efforts to enhance counseling resources and develop a new Fire Academy and Public Safety Center. Through her leadership, Electra remains dedicated to improving Washington County’s future and quality of life for its residents.

With a background in psychology, Electra earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Chatham University, which sparked her passion for community health and well-being. After graduation, she worked for State Representative Natalie Mihalek, gaining valuable political experience that deepened her commitment to public service.
