Washington County Juvenile Probation Office is seeking to hire a Juvenile Probation Monitor to supervise and direct juvenile clients mandated by the Court to participate in an intensive after school program.  The applicant must have a minimum of 2 years college credit in social services, criminal justice, or information technology (IT), or experience and training in industrial trades such as carpentry, HVAC, auto mechanics, electrician, plumbing, etc.  This position requires direct supervision of juveniles in a job training setting.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Current PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal History Clearance, and FBI Criminal History Clearance are required.  

Monday through Friday

School year hours – 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Summer hours – 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY

The Washington County District Attorney’s office is seeking to hire a FT Assistant District Attorney to prepare and prosecute criminal cases from preliminary hearing to completion, which may entail a jury trial, non-jury trial, or any other non-trial disposition such as a guilty plea, diversionary program, or appeal. This position must be responsive to citizens, victims, law enforcement personnel and the policies of the District Attorney’s office in the disposition of their cases.

 

A Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in Pennsylvania (member of the Pennsylvania Bar) are required, as is prior experience as an attorney.  Three years of job-related experience, two or more years of job-related experience for the District Attorney’s office. Must have strong analytical, research and writing skills.  Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  Must have a professional and competent attitude, demeanor and appearance.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.  Ability to work as part of at team and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Twelve hours of continuing legal education is required annually. 

 

 A thorough knowledge of the law (statutes, court cases, ruling and regulations), the court system and legal proceedings is essential, as is the ability to perform legal research.  The incumbent must remain current in the law through continuing education.  Computer skills are necessary, including Microsoft Office, Westlaw (legal research) and Court Management System.  A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle is required for travel throughout the County.

 

Starting salary - $73,460

The Washington County Juvenile Probation Department is seeking to hire a FT Probation Officer I.  Juvenile Probation Officers serve under the direction of the Washington County Court of Common Pleas.  A Juvenile Probation Officer performs duties and responsibilities consistent with the requirements of the Pennsylvania Juvenile Act, Rules of Juvenile Court Procedure, Principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice, and Juvenile Justice Evidence-Based Practices.  The mission and purpose of the Juvenile Act mandates that youth who commit delinquent acts be provided “programs of supervision, care and rehabilitation which provide balanced attention to the protection of the community, the imposition of accountability for offenses committed and the development of competencies to enable children to become responsible and productive members of the community," which fully embrace the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice.  Evidence-based Practices employ assessments, interventions, and treatment approaches that have been demonstrated by sound research to work most effectively to reduce recidivism with juvenile offenders, and enables Pennsylvania’s Juvenile Justice System to fulfill its mission and purpose.  In order to adequately perform these duties and responsibilities, a juvenile probation officer needs to possess, develop, and continually refine the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

A bachelor’s degree program with a background of at least 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences from an accredited college or university.

The position investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect and performs social service and case management supportive services to children, youth and families.  An important aspect of this work is the employment of casework skills in obtaining essential information, counseling clients and members of their families and helping them utilize all available resources.

 

A bachelor's degree, which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other related social sciences; OR two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college-level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions is required.  Strong interpersonal skills are necessary.  Microsoft Office skills are required.

Washington County is seeking applicants for the position of Children and Youth Casework Supervisor.  This is an opportunity to oversee the investigating and servicing of abuse cases in accordance with the Child Protective Services Law and other child welfare legislation and assist casework staff in the performance of their job duties.

 

The starting annual salary is $60,500.00 with a generous benefits package, including family health insurance, retirement contribution and wellness benefits/activities for both employees and their families.  On-call compensation, as assigned, is also awarded to supervisors for covering on-call shifts during evenings, weekends and holidays at 25% of their hourly rate for all time spent on such duty.

 

Two years of professional experience in public or private social work and a bachelor’s degree with major course work in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other related social sciences or any equivalent combination of experience and education which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other related social sciences is required.
