The Washington County District Attorney’s office is seeking to hire a FT Assistant District Attorney to prepare and prosecute criminal cases from preliminary hearing to completion, which may entail a jury trial, non-jury trial, or any other non-trial disposition such as a guilty plea, diversionary program, or appeal.  This position must be responsive to citizens, victims, law enforcement personnel and the policies of the District Attorney’s office in the disposition of their cases.

 

A Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in Pennsylvania (member of the Pennsylvania Bar) are required, as is prior experience as an attorney.  Three years of job-related experience, two or more years of job-related experience for the District Attorney’s office. Must have strong analytical, research and writing skills.  Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  Must have a professional and competent attitude, demeanor and appearance. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work as part of at team and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.  Twelve hours of continuing legal education is required annually. 

 

 A thorough knowledge of the law (statutes, court cases, ruling and regulations), the court system and legal proceedings is essential, as is the ability to perform legal research.  The incumbent must remain current in the law through continuing education.  Computer skills are necessary, including Microsoft Office, Westlaw (legal research) and Court Management System.  A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle is required for travel throughout the County.

 

Starting salary - $75,297

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To assist a Judge with research, writing, scheduling, and organization necessary to maintain and dispose of cases that are presented to the Courts for resolution.

BACKGROUND/SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school is required. Must be able to perform legal research and write summaries and conclusions. Computer skills are necessary.

Physical considerations. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone and in writing. The individual must use a computer and, therefore, must possess finger dexterity and be able to interpret a computer monitor. Must be able to access file drawers; therefore, some bending, reaching and stooping may be necessary. Must be able to read legal research materials.

The individual works in an office environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Researches legal topics and drafts opinions and orders, as well as correspondence. 
  1. Attends Court proceedings, including hearings, trials, routine motions, and pleas, as requested by the Judge. 
  1. Completes sentencing forms as required by the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing.   
  1. Organizes, schedules, and maintains the case list and briefing and argument schedules. 
  1. Communicates with the public and attorneys, by telephone or in person. 
  1. Attends conferences with the Judge, attorney and litigants. 
  1. Attends educational sessions for civil, criminal, family court, orphans court updates.

 SECONDARY DUTIES 

  1. Performs all other duties and or special projects as assigned and on an as needed basis.

 SUPERVISORY RELATIONS

 This position reports to a specific Judge; the individual has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 MONETARY RESPONSIBILITY

 There are no monetary responsibilities.

The County of Washington Behavioral Health & Developmental Services Department is seeking applicants for the position of Early Intervention Coordinator.  The starting salary for the position is $41,482.93 with a generous benefits package, including family health insurance, retirement contribution, wellness benefits/activities for both employees and their families, paid time off (vacation and sick) and employee assistance program (EAP).  The hours for the position are 8:30-4:30 Monday thru Friday (rare occasion for evening work) with minimal travel needed.

 

  • Helps children between the ages of birth to 3 years of age with developmental concerns to receive services free of charge.

 

  • Administrative role, including monitoring and coordinating the community services for the families enrolled in the Early Intervention program.

 

  • Works closely with the Early Intervention providers, community members and families enrolled in the Early Intervention program.

 

  • Responsible for coordinating parent-child interactive meetings/events, along with outreach throughout Washington County.

 

  • Works closely with Office of Developmental and Early Learning (OCDEL) for monitoring and evaluations of the providers of the Early Intervention services in the county. 

 

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

 

Two years of professional level experience in the field of intellectual disabilities; and a bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.

The position investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect and performs social service and case management supportive services to children, youth and families.  An important aspect of this work is the employment of casework skills in obtaining essential information, counseling clients and members of their families and helping them utilize all available resources.

 

A bachelor's degree, which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other related social sciences; OR two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college-level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions is required.  Strong interpersonal skills are necessary.  Microsoft Office skills are required.
